Today was a work block. Students worked on their Great Question essays. They're due at the beginning of class tomorrow.
On these days, students received a new raft version of the Reading Log. This version has three separate days on it; they don't submit the logs immediately.
We did DLR Week 1, Wednesday. Students then had time to finish their descriptions of The Lost Thing in "The Lost Thing." SUBMITTED: "The Lost Thing" description Today students finished their Reading Logs (WIAW 1.1.3).
We then finished viewing "The Monsters are Due on Maple Street" and submitted our Fluency Logs. We then viewed "The Monsters are on Maple Street." We will use that to finish the "Fear writeup" that we started ont he first day. Today we started the class with Reading Log 1.2.2 (Questions).
Students then had a chance to continue working on their Great Question essays, which are due on Monday, September 16. ABSENT: TH Today, students received a new Reading Log (Questions 1.2.1).
We then spent some time setting up our Great Questions essays on Google Docs, following the MLA format. The essay is due on Monday, September 16. Today students started the block with silent reading (WIAW 1.1.3).
We then finished viewing the original version of The Monsters are Due on Maple Street and submitted our Fluency Logs based on it. We also viewed the updated version. I assigned the "Fear writeup" that we started on the first day for homework, due on Monday the 16th. The question was,
Today we did our Silent Reading logs (Day 1.2) and then did our Daily Language Review.
After that we brainstormed a bit about how to describe The Lost Thing in "The Lost Thing." We continued making our webs. I then distributed the assignment for next class, where students will write a paragraph to describe The Lost Thing. I will use this mainly for assessment, to see where each student's starting point is. HANDOUTS: Lost Thing Descriptive Paragraph Today we started the class with a Reading Log, 1.1.4 (Questions). Then, for Anticipatory Bell Work Day 3 (1.1.3), we discussed "synecdoche and metonymy." Then we went over the outline for the following assignment: We decided it's due on Monday, September 16, and that I will want to see a completed outline by the end of tomorrow's block (September 11).
UPCOMING: Great Question Assignment due September 16 ABSENT: OS Today students received a new Reading Log (WIAW 1.1) (block 8), and the students in blocks 1 and 4 were on day 1.2 of a What's Important and Why log.
